This course is an introduction to dog grooming and is for those who are well-motivated, passionate about dogs and keen to start out in the industry and progress to higher level qualifications. Entry Requirements

Students aged 16 -18 are required to have GCSE English and maths at C grade or above. The course is suitable for you if you have a keen interest in dogs and are well motivated with a mature approach to study. Suitability of all applicants is assessed at interview and all options discussed.

Career options

Successful completion of this course to a good standard represents the first stage of your journey to becoming a qualified groomer and allows you to progress to the Dog Grooming Introductory Level 3 Certificate and beyond.

What you need to know

What will I study?

You will complete a mixture of practical and theoretical work with modules including handling and restraint of a variety of dogs, health & safety in the workplace and bathing, drying and preparing dogs for styling. You will be required to maintain a high standard of customer service and learn to manage your time effectively to meet a challenging workload and high customer expectations.

How will I be taught?

All teaching takes place in the grooming parlour where you will work closely with a lecturer and grooming assistant, both of whom have proven track records within the industry. You will work on dogs provided by customers to the commercial parlour.

How will I be assessed?

You will produce a portfolio of written work and photographic evidence and you will complete practical assessments with tutors and an online multiple choice test.
